Analysis of Complex Fluids: Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS)

saxs

SAXS is one of the most powerful tools in exploring the morphological aspects of complex fluids. We utilize this technique to establish orientation behavior in complex fluids as a result of LAOS.

Schematic of 2-dimensional small-angle-x-ray-scattering (2D-SAXS). Besides the typical 2D-SAXS patterns of a macroscopically isotropic PS-b-PI diblock copolymer with lamellar microstructure, the scattering patterns are also shown for the materials after large amplitude oscillatory shearing (LAOS) processes. By controlling shearing temperature, frequency, and amplitude, well aligned single-crystalline-like, as well as bimodal oriented morphology can be obtained.
