Welcome to the Wise Research Group at Cornell University
We study semiconductor nanocrystals and ultrafast optical physics. Quantum confinement of electrons in nanocrystals allows tuning of the electronic and optical properties of materials. We are interested in applications of nanocrystals to light emission and light harvesting in photovoltaic devices. Our ultrafast optics team is currently focused on nonlinear wave propagation and the generation of new kinds of soliton pulses in fiber lasers and space-time solitons ("light bullets") in three dimensions.

Ultrafast Fiber Laser and Amplifiers
Fiber research ranges from fundamental investigations into nonlinear pulse and solitary-wave propagation to laser engineering for a range of applications.
Spatiotemporal Solitons
We are working to generate fully-confined spatiotemporal solitons, and we are also investigating the potential future uses of light bullets in information processing.
Semiconductor Nanocrystals
This work ranges from basic physics to applications. We are studying the electronic, optical, and vibrational properties of semiconductor nanocrystals, or quantum dots.
