  1. Ask if you haven't done something before.
  2. Goggles, contact lenses
  3. Emergency exit, eye wash, shower (note: no drain)
  4. Fire extinguishers, regular and metal fires
  5. Nothing down the drain besides water, neutralized aqueous acids and bases, and common inorganic salts
  6. Don't leave glassware in sink; dirty glassware bin
  7. Clean up procedure: simple washing, base bath
  8. Vacuum turn on and off
  9. Traps
  10. Hoods - If they aren't running, do not work in the lab keep stuff off edges hood sashes - keep down when not in use clean and neat gas lines water flow and aspirator: watch out for floods wire down hoses alarm and flow rate running reaction sign
  11. Waste bottles - full name of chemical, no abbreviations keep halogenated separate from organic
  12. Solvents: work with in fume hood unless water, ethanol, isopropanol
  13. Chemicals: label your beakers, round bottoms, vials, etc
  14. Needles
  15. Broken glass and sharps
  16. Heating: oil bath is preferred method
  17. Roto-vap etiquette
  18. Gloves: if you put a glove on, the glove is to be considered contaminated
  19. Chemical storage - inventory system, screw on caps tightly
  20. Chemical carriers
  21. N2 gas tanks, liquid N2, liq N2 refill
  22. Safety first: If you can't do it safely, you don't do it at all.
